Homeschooling is considered to be very beneficial for kids. A wise man said that if we teach our children to have courage, faith and endurance and show them how to learn, they will in turn teach us to laugh, sing and to love.

To put it simply, each of the members of the family will have some valuable lessons to teach the whole family. This means that home schooling is not just about teaching children academic lessons but there is more than meets the eye to homeschooling.

Surprisingly, the main benefit of home schooling is that it builds solid relationships in the family. Because the parent will teach the children, the children will see their parents as their mentors and not just people who feed them.

It increases the bond between the members of the family. A household that home schools is a household that spends their time learning, laughing, playing and living with each other all day everyday.

Another great thing about home schooling is that the curriculum is flexible. Because the parameters are determined by the best teachers, which are the parents, they know how to teach their children in order for them to learn better. Besides, who of all people knows the children better than their parents?

In 2008 there were more people in the US and UK working from home than there has every been before. There are lots of possible reasons for why this is the case, including better encouragement from the government, better access to insurance for small business and also employers becoming more understanding about the benefits of giving their staff flexibility. The list of other motivations probably goes on for miles, but the evidence suggests less people are no longer satisfied with the traditionally 9-5 any more.

Along with the increase in people working from home and starting home-based businesses, news this month has come from the government to say more children of home workers are being home-schooled. As long as parents stick to the curriculum set out by the government, home schooling is, and always has been a viable alternative to schools. Just over 12 million children were home-schooled in the US in 2002, and around 5 million in the UK. This figure in 2008 rose to 21 million and 7 million respectively. It is thought that as one of the biggest motivations for working from home was being able to spend time with family, including children, many thought they would get more benefit if their children stayed at home also

Not everyone is happy about increasing home-schooling figures, with some education groups suggesting home-schooled children are missing out on learning important interaction development that they get from being around children of their own age. One study conducted back in 1990 showed that whilst home-schooled children performed better in strictly academic tests, they showed lower levels of social intelligence. This study has since been discredited by many since and education experts largely agree that home schooling can be the best choice for some children, and there is no overruling argument to say otherwise.
