I would like to add that having a dedicated server also allow you to run beta software or configure your server the way you need it to run your sites properly. Like a car on the highway you want one that runs the best for you, not how the manufacture wants it. Also take note that in today's market you can purchase Managed servers. We have a managed server hosted with Server Intellect. This allows us to have a complete server without having to full knowledge of all aspects of a windows servers. In the last year the price point on unmanaged vs managed servers has closed the gag which has made this server choice very attractive! Very good read.
