Overture - The Free Alternatives
With the Overture Keyword Suggestion
Tool either overworked or retired (and
either way it's currently inaccessible),
the question for keyword researchers
is... What will replace Overture?
In this article, we will look at several
contenders... currently available alternatives
to Overture that you can use without
logging in or paying anything. Just
like it was with the old Overture.
There are some fine commercial resources,
but today we're talking about free sites
only.
1) Google AdWords Keyword Tool
This keyword generator from Google
provides a list of potential keywords
for AdWords ad campaigns but of course,
you can use it for any purpose you like.
You don't need to login or pay anything.
Because results come from the massive
Google resources, your results are as
up to date as Google is.
 You
can select in the drop down box from
several alternatives including search
volume for your keywords or keyphrases
and trends in search volume. Search
volume is nothing more than a graphic
that depicts a score out of 5. You can
opt for synonyms to also be displayed.
Overall: The lack of specific numbers
means this tool will be less useful
to many keyword hounds. Let's keep looking...
2) NicheBot Classic
This is the original nichebot service.
It offers fewer options than the new
nichebot, but it's easier to use and
doesn't require logging in.
Good points:
-- Fast and easy to use.
-- It produces numbers (counts of search
volume).
Bad points:
-- Has a captcha device so you have
to type in the random letters before
it will do any work for you.
3) WordTracker Free Keyword Suggestion
Tool
Enter a starting keyword or keyphrase
to generate up to 100 related keywords
and an estimate of their daily search
volume.
Yes, you get numbers here too. Their
results are drawn from Dogpile and Metacrawler,
two meta search engines.
Good points:
-- Has a clean user-friendly interface
and is easy to use.
-- It produces numbers.
-- It lists up to 100 results which
is more than either AdWords or NicheBot.
-- No captcha.
Bad points:
-- (Sorry, I cant find any.)
