Use Internet Giveaways To Build Your
List
Most newsletter publishers would like
to keep their costs down while at the
same time building their subscriber
lists.
Internet giveaways are an effective
option to achieve both goals.
The purpose of this short article is
to address the main questions about
giveaways.
WHAT IS A GIVE-AWAY?
Giveaways are, quite simply, where
one or more publishers and marketers
are giving away ebooks, reports, software,
website templates and graphics packages,
videos and audios, even memberships
and teleconferences.
WHY WOULD OTHERS GIVE VALUABLE CONTENT
AWAY FOR FREE?
In
a single word... LEVERAGE. When you
participate in the giveaway as a product
donor, your product is offered to the
combined audience totals of all the
participants. For example, if you have
6,000 people on your mailing list and
I have 17,500 on mine, then your offer
is presented to 17,500 new people. That
way, you are leveraging off my larger
list so you get value in exchange for
giving away your gift.
But I also benefit because I potentially
reach 6000 new people when you send
your group an invitation to visit the
giveaway site... because they see my
offer and may choose to download my
gift.
When you also factor in the dozens
of other promoters who will typically
be involved, you can see that every
player gets considerable leverage...
which can translate into a significant
marketing advance for all.
The "little guy" perhaps
gets disproportional benefit because
he or she has access to the huge audience
of prospects coming from the bigger
players.
HOW DOES THIS BUILD MY SUBSCRIBER
LIST?
Well, you offer your gift on condition
that interested prospects come to your
site and join your mailing list. For
example, you offer a short report on
keeping your pet poodle healthy all
year round. Then everybody who is interested
in poodles (and nobody else!) will click
on the link and go to your website.
After they complete their subscription
process, you send them the download
link for your poodles report.
This way you are building a highly
targeted mailing list. People who are
interested in the kings and queens of
England won't join your 'better barbeques'
mailing list.
IS THERE ANYTHING RELEVANT FOR MY
NICHE?
Well, candidly... it depends. I've
seen a broad range of interests addressed
at these amazing sites.
The popular topics are covered because
there is no benefit in giving away stuff
nobody wants. Less popular topics are
covered less frequently, so you might
have to do some searching - and perhaps
some lateral thinking. For instance,
ask yourself... What else might poodle
owners be interested in? Hmmm. Lots
of people are concerned about health
or money issues so that's a possibility.
The main thing here is this: if the
first giveaway you join doesn't offer
something that your people would be
interested in, join another giveaway.
There are plenty to choose from.
BUT WILL IT BUILD MY LIST?
Well, one smart young marketer I know
reports that 80% of his list growth
is due to giveaways. Another is making
$3000 a month simply by promoting other
people's giveaways. So yes, giveaways
do work.
